The Club's membership hovers around 900 members, with a membership base from all major cities in India. The Club has grown from strength to strength over the years and proudly ranks as one of the finest Clubs in the country. The “Ooty Club culture" is evolved by the rules regulating personal conduct, dress and discipline within its surrounds,this is its strength. Rules are not sustainable without culture and tradition propagates culture.
The highlights of the annual social calendar include, the Planter’s Ball and is still held during the planter’s week – in days gone by; dinner at the Ball was a formal sit-down affair with wine accompanying each course. Food was served in silver dishes, the cutlery being Mapin& Webb. Dinner Jackets were de rigueur. With increased patronage over the years, however, logistics dictated that an elaborate buffet be served instead. Monthly lunches, with featured cuisine, are very well attended, the Pub lunch in summer and Christmas lunch in December being the most popular.
The Club has 22 well-furnished residential chambers, all of which have been recently renovated, retaining the old world charm with modern amenities. The Main Lounge boasts of ancient hunting trophies, old pictures and lithographs adorn its walls. The Club has a delightful formal dining room, which serves its unique continental menu along with Indian and Chinese options. Dress code and etiquette at the formal dining room is strictly adhered to. The club also has a Bar, Cards Room, Gym, Library and Billiards room, of which its claim to fame on the origins of snooker are well preserved. The club grounds and garden and lawns are a delight on a sunny day.
The club is managed by the management committee which comprises of 13 committee members including the President and Vice-President and, under its guidance, a Secretary administers the running of the Club.
The club and its members are very protective about the Club's culture, rules and etiquette, which are strictly followed by all its members and the guests that they bring to the club. The club, being a members only club, it is important to understand that the members subscribe to the rules, regulation and the etiquette of the club and it is important to understand that while visiting the club the members expect all their guest to adhere to the same.
